Downtown Cicero: Quaint, Pretty and Practical
Downtown Cicero is just about as quaint as it gets in Central Indiana and the rest of the Midwest. This small town simply exudes Americana, though practicality and modern living are fast overtaking it. Cicero, Indiana never has to pretend to be any more than it is for the simple reason that it’s a community full of beauty and vigor, a veritable art form in small-town living.
See the flags out at every corner during Independence Day or Memorial Day weekend. Notice the pride Cicero’s Hoosier residents take in their charming city. If you’re visiting the downtown Cicero neighborhood, take time to feel its Pioneer past, reverberating off the old white ice machine on the main drag and onto the avenue’s architecture, new and old. Don’t be surprised if you see a monster tractor driven down the ample street.
While meandering through the center of town, be sure to seek out Alexander’s on the Water, a premier ice cream shop and restaurant in Cicero. You may want to stop off for the perfect steak at the Anvil Inn first, or have a cold one at Jesse’s Sports Grill and talk Indianapolis Colts with the locals.
The lovely downtown sector of Cicero hovers on the edges of Morse Reservoir, which imparts its beauty and character to the charming hamlet. On the west side of the reservoir is the Bear Slide Golf Course, a principle Cicero attraction, and, two miles to the southwest you will find the Indianapolis Boys Club Camp, just north of the Circle City itself.
